This book focuses on the artificial neural network-based system for gaze-based communication. It covers the feasible and practical collaboration of human–computer interaction (HCI) in which a user can intuitively express tasks using gaze-based communication. It will target the vast applications of gaze-based communication using computer vision, image processing, and Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence-Based System for Gaze-Based Communication introduces a novel method to recognize the implicit intention of users by using nonverbal communication in combination with computer vision technologies. A novel HCI framework is developed to enable implicit and intuitive gaze-based intention communications. This framework allows the users to intuitively express their intention using natural gaze cues. The book also focuses on robot caregiving technology, which can understand the user’s intentions using minimal interactions with the user. The authors examine gaze-based tracking applications for the assisted living of elderly people. The book examines detailed applications of eye-gaze communication for real-life problems. It also examines the advantages that most people can handle gaze-based communications because it requires very little effort, and most of the elderly and impaired can retain visual capability. This book is ideally designed for students, researchers, academicians, and professionals interested in exploring and implementing gaze-based communication strategies and those working in the field of Computer Vision and image processing.

It embodies the cumulative knowledge and efforts of a wide array of active researchers and practitioners from diverse fields including Computer Vision, affective computing, robotics, psychology, data mining, Machine Learning, art history, and movement analysis. This volume seeks to address the profound and challenging research questions related to the computational modeling and analysis of visual aesthetics, emotions, and artistic style, vital components of the human experience that are increasingly relevant in our digitally connected world. The book's vast scope encompasses a broad range of topics. The initial chapters lay a strong foundation with background knowledge on emotion models and Machine Learning, which then transitions into exploring social visual perception in humans and its technological applications. Readers will uncover the psychological and neurological foundations of social and emotional perception from faces and bodies. Subsequent sections broaden this understanding to include technology's role in detecting discrete and subtle emotional expressions, examining facial neutrality, and including research contexts that involve children as well as adults. Furthermore, the book illuminates the dynamic intersection of art and technology, the language of photography, the relationship between breath-driven robotic performances and human dance, and the application of Machine Learning in analyzing artistic styles.

Human Activity and Behavior Analysis relates to the field of vision and sensor-based human action or activity and behavior analysis and recognition. The book includes a series of methodologies, surveys, relevant datasets, challenging applications, ideas, and future prospects. Activity recognition has been a hot research topic for some years now. One of its main applications is ambient assisted living, so that people in need of assistance might stay in their own environment longer than previously possible. There is a wide range of sensors of different types and applications being tested in this domain, ranging from ambient binary motion sensors and pressure mats to wearable gyroscopes or sensors monitoring body functions. This is also due to the many different levels of surveillance tested by the researchers. The library we selected to use here is Apache Beam and in-memory database Redis. There are two reasons to use Apache Beam: The first is the ease of implementation. Apache Beam can be written in programming languages such as Java or Python, and the process is represented as a pipeline, so it is intuitive and easy to implement. We used Machine Learning methods for classification and extracted statistical features from raw 3-D acceleration and 3-D angular velocity for each axis within the segment. In this work, we compared three types of classifiers, multi-class support vector machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and K Nearest Neighbors (KNN) from Scikit-learn, a Machine Learning library for Python. We chose to set all of the parameters of Machine Learning models to default values of Scikit-learn. Before training data with classifiers, we chose RF and KNN classifiers which calculate distances between different points in their algorithm.

The book discusses topics such as action recognition, action understanding, gait analysis, gesture recognition, behavior analysis, emotion and affective computing, and related areas. Sensors and cameras are exploited for the analysis and recognition of human activity and behavior. In the book Human Activity and Behavior Analysis: Advances in Computer Vision and Sensors, we have divided across two volumes, 40 wonderful chapters under five parts: Part 1: Healthcare and Emotion (Chapters 1–7), Part 2: Mental Health (Chapters 8–14), Part 3: Nurse Care Records (Chapters 15–26), Part 4: Movement and Sensors (Chapters 27–36), and Part 5: Sports Activity Analysis (Chapters 37–40). In a complex problem such as stress detection, the application of some type of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms makes sense. The vast amount of data in a context where multiple variables, such as HR, HRV, GSR, and ST, might have different outputs based on each other, makes it a prime target for the ML approach. Some of the most common classification algorithms are Support Vector Machines (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbours (K-NN), Random Forests (RF), Decision Trees, and Naive Bayes (NB). The data processing and model development used different Python libraries such as Pandas, Tensorflow, and Keras. To recognize stress from the physiological data, we tested different Machine Learning algorithms. We implemented the approach using Python and the Scikit-learn library.

This book shows how different types of motion can be disambiguated into their components in a richer way than that currently possible in computer vision. Previous research of motion analysis has generally not yet considered the basic nature of higher orders of motion such as acceleration. Hence, this book introduces an approximation of the acceleration field using established optical flow techniques. Further, acceleration is decomposed into radial and tangential based on geometry and propagated as a general motion descriptor; this book shows the capability for differentiating different types of motion both on synthesized data and real image sequences. Beyond acceleration, the higher orders of motion flow and their continuant parts are investigated for further revealing the chaotic motion fields. Naturally, it is possible to extend this notion further: to detect higher orders of image motion. In this respect, this book shows how jerk and snap can be obtained from image sequences. The derived results on test images and heel strike detection in gait analysis illustrate the ability of higher-order motion, which provide the basis for the following research and applications in the future.

Image classification is a critical component in computer vision tasks and has numerous applications. Traditional methods for image classification involve feature extraction and classification in feature space. Current state-of-the-art methods utilize end-to-end learning with Deep Neural Networks, where feature extraction and classification are integrated into the model. Understanding traditional image classification is important because many of its design concepts directly correspond to components of a neural network. This knowledge can help demystify the behavior of these networks, which may seem opaque at first sight. The book starts from introducing methods for model-driven feature extraction and classification, including basic Computer Vision techniques for extracting high-level semantics from images. The topic of image classification is presented as a thoroughly curated sequence of steps that gradually increase understanding of the working of a fully trainable classifier. Practical exercises in Python/Keras/Tensorflow have been designed to allow for experimental exploration of these concepts. In each chapter, suitable functions from Python modules are briefly introduced to provide students with the necessary tools to conduct these experiments.
